At work on Home Before Dark



Dara created and showran Home Before Dark for Apple TV+, a drama inspired by real-life 12-year-old crime reporter Hilde Lysiak, and followed Season 2 with showrunning The Horror of Dolores Roach for Amazon Studios and Blumhouse.

Other credits include Aaron Sorkin’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Pushing Daisies, Mistresses, Castle, Jane the Virgin, Shooter, Joey Soloway’s I Love Dick, and Marvel’s Daredevil.

Since 2014, Dara has mentored cohorts of students in the art of storytelling.

Dara and her partner James Takata just wrapped production on California Scenario, an independent feature starring Will Yun Lee, Abby Miller, Brooklynn Prince, and Minnie Mills, ready for release later this year. Dara is currently in active development on a limited series about Robert Durst for UCP/Peacock.

A sought-after mentor, Dara teaches screenwriting at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and for programs such as the Sundance Labs, Rideback, Veterans in Media and Entertainment and the U.S. State Department’s Middle East Media Initiative. She is on the advisory board of FIT’s Film and Media Program.
